Vineyards and harvest in Friuli Venezia Giulia: tradition and flavors to discover

With the end of summer, a magical period begins for the whole of Friuli Venezia Giulia: the grape harvest.

September and October are crucial months for local wineries, where the grape harvest is not just an agricultural practice, but a true celebration of local traditions. If you too are passionate about wine and wine culture, or would like to discover more about this magnificent world, we invite you to discover this experience up close, between walks in the vineyards and tastings of our unique wines.

FVG: a land of fine wines

Visiting our region at this time of year means immersing yourself in a landscape rich in history, culture and authentic flavors.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region with a rich winemaking tradition, known throughout the world for its high-quality wines. Thanks to the unique territorial morphology, which goes from the hills to the plains, and a perfect microclimate, wines with distinctive characteristics are born here, which best express the link between territory and wine production.

The main wine-growing areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia are located in the provinces of Gorizia and Udine, territories called Collio and Colli Orientali respectively. These areas, certified DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin), are renowned for their high-quality white wines, thanks to the calcareous soil and favorable microclimate. Among the main types of grapes present are Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Verduzzo Friulano, Picolit, Malvasia Istriana and Vitouska.

In the plains, in the Grave del Friuli area (DOC), red wines prevail, thanks to the gravelly soils that give the wines a particular structure. Here the most common grape categories are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Pignolo, Schioppettino, Terrano and Refosco.

Vino Ai Prati: the small wine production of Casale

The winemaking history of FVG is deeply linked to the values of tradition and family, just like that of our family.

We too, at Casale ai Prati, host a vineyard that benefits from the microclimate created by the proximity of the Adriatic Sea, with warm and salty air currents that contribute to the creation of wines with an unmistakable character.

Our winery, Vino ai Prati, offers three IGP wine labels:

  • Brut: a dry sparkling wine, perfect for a fresh aperitif;
  • Lama 2.0 White: a fruity wine that pairs splendidly with fish dishes and white meats;
  • Lama 2.0 Red: a more structured wine, ideal for accompanying cured meats, cheeses and meats.

It is an unmissable opportunity to live an authentic experience and take a dip into the past, when every Friulian family had a small plot of vineyard from which to obtain their own wine.

A unique experience to live

If you are a wine lover or simply want to immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of one of the most fascinating regions of Italy, this is the perfect time to visit Friuli Venezia Giulia. September and October, with the grape harvest in full swing, offer you the opportunity to discover not only the local wines, but also the passion and dedication we put into cultivating our land.

At Casale ai Prati, we look forward to helping you experience this special season with personalized tastings, walks through the vineyards and moments of relaxation in the quiet of the Friulian countryside. Every sip of our wines contains the history and flavor of a tradition that is particularly close to our hearts.

We look forward to seeing you for a stay that will make you feel part of our big family.
